Iyengar Yoga

 

Mr. BKS Iyengar, born in 1918 and parted from this world on the 20th of August 2014, has devoted his life to the practice and teaching of yoga. He has written several books, now reference texts, like Light On Yoga, Light on Pranayama, The Tree of Yoga, Light on Life, etc…

Geeta Iyengar, his daughter, deceased in 2018,  has been a yogini devoted to develop yoga and its benefits to women. She wrote " Yoga A gem for Women" and "Yoga in Action".

 

 

Prashant Iyengar, his son, studies and teaches the subtle links between body, breath, mind and pure consciousness. He has written number of articles amongst which, A class after The Class Yoga for The New Millenium, …

Abhijata Sridhar Iyengar, his grand daughter teaches in Pune and abroad.

The Iyengar method

 

The Iyengar method focuses on:

The alignment of the skeletal system, the intensity and duration of the postures, the art of sequencing the postures to enhance the beneficial effects on the body, the importance of the inverted postures to balance the nervous system, the use of supports and props, the meeting of body to mind and breath in a unique experience which can be called “meditation in action”.
